For many people the romance of the railways was embodied in the steam locomotives that bore the famous Express name - these were the most prestigious of all the trains that ran. There was none more famous than the Cornish Riviera Express which ran daily from GWR's Paddington terminus to the much-loved holiday resorts in Devon and Cornwall. The Expresses were hauled by a variety of locomotives and who could fail to be impressed by the magnificent King class locomotives. Many of these, including the legendary City of Truro which was the first to exceed 100 mph, have been lovingly restored and still work steam express trains today.
