Sievert
A blow lamp produced by Max Sievert AB, Sweden. It is fitted with the Quick Start device.

It all started in Sweden 1882. Carl Rickard Nyberg invents the blow lamp and production starts the year after. In 1895 also Primus (perhaps better known for their pressure stoves) starts production of blow lamps. Both these companies are very successful in getting their products out on the world markets very much thanks to their respective marketing partners Max Sievert (Nyberg) and B. A. Hjorth (Primus). They compete by developing new designs which are quickly copied by the other. In the beginning of 1900, both these companies have around to 200 different models in their production.

The success of these two companies resulted in other companies also started production of blow lamps. These other companies concentrated on producing a much more limited range of products and by copying the the two big manufacturers. They had very little, if any, product development by themselves.

Optimus, however continued to compete and this company also took over the blow lamp production from both Primus and Sievert in the sixties and continued for another 10 years to produce a limited range of blow lamps.
