283548 M.A.D.	"HOLY SPIKE BIKES ON ICE BATMAM"--HiYa, WOW,what a great site!!! I was sniffing around for a place just like this...and wala! Me and another guy started the speedway class in Michigan around 1999. All the ovals are horse tracks,so basically we were running Longtrack-"euro style". This put us on 1/4-1/2+5/8 miles-mostly 1/2 miles for the most part.This was done to try and promote speedway in a state where nobody had a clue! Our main objective was a small track and then take it from there. Maybe a jr. program and some long track and not the high maintenance bigger venues. On a small track it is more intimate and easier on the equipment, just to mention a few. After 7 years of long track, we still don't have a Costa/Indy style going!!! OH WELL. I put it off for years,even though I had the land to do it on--I finally cut my own track. Man you would't believe how much fun it is to ride that little bull ring!!! Once the setup(REALLY IMPORTANT), was done--it was slideways city baby!!! The track is like a hockey rink--180' x 105'. Wider for the turning. It's hard, but once you get it to go around in a non/ stop slide it really works. Kinda like shooting pool on a long table and then going to a way smaller one. With the land being mostly clay, it's hard + slick. Bald tires and the right setup-clutch/wheelbase/gearing/timing/carb/pressure, it goes sideways at almost a standstill. I'm going to try and have a few races this year, in an effort to get more riders involved. You guys and the gals too I see, are so lucky to have the support and efforts of all the people involved. I hope You keep it going for a long time!!! Kinda got a little carried away on the subject--when the speedway bug bites, IT REALLY BITES HARD!!! One of the reasons I started this letter was to see also if anyone has Spike tires, or related info to share on maybe setting up my Long Track speedway bike into a spike bike.For the most part, I think it can be done. I wanted to get an older Spike, but they are diffucult to find in the states. The guy that started the speedway class with me had one, but he sold it. Last I heard it has had a bunch of owners since the last 4 years or so??? Another guy has one but has yet to take it out--What a joke,he should look at his license plate more often, it reads--GREAT LAKE STATE!!! I'd be out the 1st sign of anything remotely slippery!!! Anyway, thanx for listening, and if anyone wants to trade a Jawa Long bike for a spike, or has info on the transformation, Please e-mail me. Once again- Great site and truely enlightening.
