FERDINAND II - THE CATHOLIC 1495-1516 October 18th 2004 Copyright Ludopress, Alea 22 page 11 (Fernando II El Catolico). Published with permission. Note: the main goal of the scenario is historicity and not playability. The Ferdinand II Machiavelli scenario begins in 1495. Southern Italy is divided between France and Aragon. Not happy with this Ferdinand II forms "The Holy League" to regain the Kingdom of Naples. The Papacy manages to expand its influence, while both Milan and Venice suffer setbacks. Machiavelli Classic Setup The powers and their initial starting locations and owned provinces are: T: Ottoman A-Albania, F-Durazzo, A-Slavonia, Bosnia, Croatia, Herzegovina V: Venice A-Dalmatia, A-Padua, A-Romagna*, F-Venice, Bergamo, Brescia**, Friuli, Istria, Treviso, Verona, Vicenza* A: Austria A-Austria, A-Tyrolea, Carniola, Carinthia, Hungary I: Milan A-Milan, A-Modena, A-Pavia, Como, Cremona, Piacenza* P: Papacy A-Ancona, G-Bologna, A-Rome, Patrimony, Perugia, Spoleto, Tivoli*, Urbino L: Florence A-Florence, F-Pisa, Arezzo, Pistoia F: France A-Avignon, F-Marseille, Provence A-Naples, Aquila, Capua S: Aragon F-Messina, A-Palermo, F-Sardinia F-Otranto, Bari, Salerno x: Autonomous Garrisoned fortified cities: G-Ferrara, G-Genoa, G-Lucca, G-Mantua, G-Modena, G-Montferrat, G-Piombino, G-Ragusa, G-Saluzzo, G-Savoy, G-Siena, G-Trent, G-Tunis, G-Turin Note: the suggestions below are not part of the original rules. * Ignore in play with Machiavelli 2 map. Note that the single letter abbreviations for the powers Milan, I, and Florence, L, are the second letter of the name rather than the first to avoid conflicts with the Master (GM) and France. Special rules: The fortresses are *not* used in this scenario. Venice and Aragon have two die rolls each for variable income. Aragon uses the Naples die roll. Austria, Florence, Milan, France, Papacy and the Ottoman have one die roll each for variable income. Any power, *except Aragon*, controlling Naples city gain one die roll for variable income.** Modena is *not* part of Milans home country. Aquila, Capua, Naples *are* part of France's home country, and do not constitute part of a separate Neapolitan home country.*** Bari, Otranto, Salerno *are* part of Aragons home country, and do not constitute part of a separate Neapolitan home country. There is no Neapolitan home country available for conquest. France must pay 2 ducats extra per unit to build units in Naples province. France must pay 1 ducat extra per unit to maintain a unit in either of Aquila, Bari, Capua, Naples, Otranto or Salerno. Notes regarding the original rules: 1) It is not clear whether Naples is available for conquest as a home country or part of either France or Aragon, or only of Aragon. 2) Nor the VI status of Genoa, or Modena are mentioned. 3) Whether the supplemental ducat for maintenance in the neapolitan provinces applies to all units or the province or each unit is not clear. 4) The suggestions below are mine. ** Optionally you may add Genoa. *** Optionally regard this as part of the Aragon home country and remove the pecunial penalties imposed on France ! Machiavelli 2 Assume that the initial treasury is any surplus remaining after the initial maintenance costs, else it is zero. Note: In the original text there are no provisions for play with the Mach2 map and rules, nor for play with less powers/players. Default victory conditions: The first player to control at least 15 cities and have control of at least two power's original home countries (eg: his own and one other player's) is declared the winner. ----- * Avalon Hill, Machiavelli and Diplomacy are trademarks of Hasbro Inc.
