THE NEAPOLITAN REBELLION 1547-1556 January 1st 2005 Copyright Ludopress, Alea 22 page 12 (La rebelion neapolitana). Published with permission. Note: the main goal of the scenario is historicity and not playability. The Neapolitan Rebellion Machiavelli scenario begins in 1547. The vice-roy of Naples (with imperial complicity) makes a new attempt to set up the Inquisition in the kingdom of Naples (on the feeble excuse that Luther's catechism is gaining followers). The people and the Pope are opposed to the plans. In 1547 the people rise against the imperial troops, but the rebellion is violently suppressed. Machiavelli Classic Setup The powers and their initial starting locations and owned provinces are: A: Austria A-Austria, A-Carinthia, Hungary, Tyrolea A-Milan, A-Cremona, G-Siena, F-Palermo, F-Messina, F: France F-Marseille, A-Provence, A-Swiss, A-Siena, Avignon G: Genoa F-Corsica, F-Genoa L: Florence A-Florence, A-Pisa, A-Arezzo, Pistoia P: Papacy F-Ancona, A-Bologna, A-Perugia, A-Parma, Rome, Patrimony, Romagna*, Spoleto, Tivoli*, Urbino N: Naples (rebs) F-Bari, A-Naples, F-Salerno, Aquila, Capua, Otranto V: Venice F-Dalmatia, A-Padua, A-Treviso, F-Venice, Bergamo, Brescia*, Friuli, Istria, Verona, Vicenza* T: Ottoman A-Albania, F-Durazzo, F-Tunis, Bosnia, Herzegovina x: Autonomous Garrisoned fortified cities: G-Lucca, G-Mantua, G-Modena, G-Montferrat, G-Pavia, G-Piombino, G-Ragusa, G-Saluzzo, G-Savoy, G-Turin, G-Trent Note: the suggestions below are not part of the original rules. * Ignore in play with Machiavelli 2 map. Note that the single letter abbreviations for Florence, L, is the second letter of the name rather than the first to avoid conflicts with France. Special rules: The fortresses are *not* used in this scenario. Siena, Milan and Cremona are not part of the Austrian home country. Siena is also not part of France's home country Palermo and Messina are part of the austrian home country. Austria, Florence and France have two die rolls each for variable income. All other powers have one die roll each. Control of Milan city does not award variable income. Note: this is not mentioned in the original rules, but noted here as it is the normal rule. The (rebel) unit in Naples is a *mercenary* unit. At *setup* the rebel player need only pay 3, instead of 6, ducats to maintain. The austrian player must pay +1 ducat to maintain units in Palermo and Messina (as it is assumed those units are supplied from Spain). Machiavelli 2 Assume that the initial treasury is any surplus remaining after the initial maintenance costs, else it is zero. Note: In the original text there are no provisions for play with the Mach2 map and rules, nor for play with less powers/players. Default victory conditions: The first player to control at least 15 cities and have control of at least two power's original home countries (eg: his own and one other player's) is declared the winner. ----- * Avalon Hill, Machiavelli and Diplomacy are trademarks of Hasbro Inc.
